Job Overview:
A Comprehensive Health Care in New Jersey, New Jersey s largest integrated academic healthcare system, seeks an employment law attorney to join its in-house legal department. The ideal candidate will have 4-6 years of experience in both employment litigation and counseling, preferably with a large law firm, healthcare system, or other large employer.

Reports to:
The Associate Counsel, Employment Law reports directly to the Vice President of Legal Affairs, Assistant General Counsel – Employment Law

Qualifications:
  • Juris Doctorate degree from a nationally recognized law school and excellent academic credentials required
  • Active license to practice law in the State of New Jersey preferred or eligibility for in-house counsel licensure in New Jersey
  • 4 – 6 years of experience practicing employment law required
  • Extensive knowledge of applicable state and federal employment laws, rules and regulations
  • Employment litigation experience, including appearing in state and federal courts as well as before administrative agencies
  • Prior experience in a major law firm or legal department of a large corporate organization with healthcare law experience strongly preferred
  • Experience drafting employment agreements and other employment-related documents
  • Demonstrated professional and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and experience with the ability to convey complex legal concepts to non-lawyers
  • Demonstrated time management skills, work organization and ability to manage many projects at one time

Essential Functions:
  • Provide practical, executable and accurate employment law advice to stakeholders on a daily basis
  • Report on key employment issues
  • Provide advice and counseling with respect to numerous employment law related issues, including accommodation requests under the ADA; employee leave requests, including family medical and disability leave requests; wage and hour issues; employment termination, and disciplinary issues
  • Assist with administrative agency matters
  • Conduct legal research and analysis of complex legal issues with capacity to present to stakeholders regarding the same
  • Advise on employment related aspects of acquisitions, dispositions and dissolution of businesses
  • Provide training and education to HR professionals and management to ensure understanding and compliance with applicable laws and regulations
  • Drafting employment-law related documents.
