Job Overview: We are seeking a dynamic full-time Personal Injury Attorney. This is a full-time, hybrid exempt position that combines remote work with in-office work at our Fresno, California office, along with in-person court appearances, depositions, and client meetings as needed. A successful candidate must have at least 1 year of experience practicing law in California. While experience in personal injury law is preferred, it is not required, and the Firm is willing to train the right candidate. Strong writing, analytical, and advocacy skills are essential to this position. Compensation will be determined based on qualifications and experience. Duties and Responsibilities:
Our firm encourages employees at every level to take an active role in the development and success of the firm. Shankar Legal, Inc. provides all Attorneys with robust ongoing training through our Attorney Training Program, and we are willing to train attorneys who are new to personal injury law.

The essential functions (i.e., fundamental job duties of the position), subject to shareholder supervision, are as follows:
  • Represents injured clients in personal injury matters, which may include motor vehicle accidents, premises liability, dog bites, and wrongful death claims.
  • Evaluates potential cases, conducts client intake interviews, and investigates claims, including gathering police reports, medical records and bills, photographs, and witness statements.
  • Prepares settlement demand packages and negotiates with insurance adjusters and opposing counsel to resolve claims before and during litigation.
  • Drafts and files pleadings, motions, and discovery in California state court, including complaints, written discovery, and law and motion filings.
  • Takes and defends depositions, and works with medical providers, experts, and investigators to develop evidence of liability and damages.
  • Appears in court for hearings, case management conferences, and mandatory settlement conferences, participates in mediations and arbitrations, and assists with trial preparation and trial.
  • Tracks statutes of limitations, government claim deadlines for claims against public entities, and other case deadlines.
  • Coordinates the resolution of medical and insurance liens, including Medi-Cal and Medicare liens, at the conclusion of cases.
  • Conducts legal research and analysis on liability, damages, insurance coverage, and procedural issues, and prepares briefs and memoranda.
  • Maintains positive, collaborative and professional relationships with other attorneys and support staff.
  • Develops trust with clients, meeting their expectations, goals, and deadlines, and keeps them informed about the status of their cases.
  • Takes a holistic approach to legal representation focusing on practical outcomes and legal risk management.
  • Develops professional skill set in personal injury practice, including growing expertise through the Firm's Attorney Training Program.
  • Performs other duties as appropriate to the skill, experience and education level of the candidate, and the needs of the Firm, including completing administrative duties to meet Firm objectives.

Education and Experience:
  • Active member in good standing of the State Bar of California, required.
  • One or more years of experience practicing law in CA, required.
  • Experience in personal injury law, preferred but not required; the Firm is willing to train.
  • Civil litigation experience, desired.
  • Strong writing skills, required.
  • Strong negotiation skills and the ability to advocate effectively with insurance carriers and opposing counsel.
  • Strong listening and communication skills, including a demonstrated ability to develop rapport with clients, witnesses, and medical providers.
  • Strong client communication skills, including the ability to work with compassion and professionalism with clients who are recovering from injuries or coping with loss.
  • Demonstrated curiosity and openness to learning new skills and the ability to accept and implement feedback.
  • Sound judgment and the ability to evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of a case objectively and give clients candid advice.
  • Strong time management skills and demonstrated ability to work independently to complete tasks under tight deadlines.
  • Ability to maximize time and effort in addressing position responsibilities, as well as quick adaptation to changes in priorities.
  • Positive, professional and approachable attitude and demeanor and the ability to collaborate with others.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English required.
  • Understanding of legal language, principles, and research methods (including experience using online research platforms).
  • Must have excellent organizational skills and ability to effectively prioritize to meet deadlines.
  • Must be experienced with Adobe Acrobat Pro, Zoom, and Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook and Power Point (firm uses cloud-based platforms such as Office 365).
  • Must have a valid California driver's license, as the position requires travel to courthouses, depositions, client meetings, and other off-site appointments.
  • Must have a can-do attitude, be flexible and be comfortable working in a fast-paced, collaborative, and entrepreneurial business culture.
