What you'll do:
  • Assist with potential client consults (jointly with senior attorney and independently).
  • Manage independent caseload with paralegal support on uncontested trust and probate administration, uncontested conservatorships, and less complex contested (litigation) cases.
  • Provide litigation support to senior attorneys on complex litigation cases.
  • Issue spot and develop legal strategies appropriate for achieving client objectives.
  • Draft petitions, objections, motions, discovery, mediation briefs, and ancillary documents.
  • Attend court hearings (via Teams and in person as needed).
  • Communicate with clients regarding case budgets, deadlines and events, and legal strategies and outcomes. Candidate should be comfortable and adept at effectively communicating complex legal concepts to clients and responding to client concerns.
  • Communicate with opposing counsel, witnesses, and other third parties in a professional and efficient manner to advance cases.
  • Draft estate planning documents such as trusts, wills, and powers of attorney. Experience desired but not required.
  • Candidate should be a self-starter who can prioritize, work on multiple projects simultaneously, and work well in a fast-paced environment.
  • Report weekly to senior counsel regarding case strategy, activity and pain points.
  • Meet annual billable requirement.

Who You Are:
  • You have 3+ years of experience in litigation (civil, family or probate) with a willingness to learn estate planning and uncontested matters in probate.
  • You have a California Bar License in good standing.
  • You're a hands-on leader, excited to work with support staff or in a team environment.
  • You are no stranger to project management; this is your super power.
  • You are able to work as a team player and independently with minimal supervision.
  • You have strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
  • You are able to work with different personalities and communicate clear, concise expectations and boundaries.
  • You have strong research skills and are comfortable with researching cases, statutes and interpreting the same.
  • You are proactive with strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • You are proficient with Word, Word Perfect, Adobe, Microsoft Outlook, Excel and familiar with or open to learning legal case management systems.
