We represent a diverse group of interesting clients, which include private equity firms, founders, startups, venture capital investors, family offices and public companies (among others), in sophisticated and complex legal matters and transactions.

We are seeking a mid-level associate to join our growing Venture Capital and Founders practice. The ideal candidate has experience with start-ups and emerging growth companies, seed and venture capital financings, growth and private equity and/or M&A. We are looking for someone who is a self-starter, has experience handling a variety of matters at any given time, and will enjoy working in an entrepreneurial environment. Our firm will be a good home for an attorney who is highly motivated and is excited about joining a growing practice group and working with clients in the start-up and venture capital ecosystem. This is an opportunity to join a close-knit group of world class lawyers who are passionate about building one of the premier venture capital practices in the marketplace. The new hire will work directly with the Firm's partners and have a significant amount of exposure to clients.

We are headquartered in Chicago, and the head of the Venture Capital and Founders practice is based in New York, but this hire will have the option of working fully remotely.

Qualifications:
  • JD 2018–2020 from a top law school with excellent academic credentials
  • Must have relevant law firm and/or in-house experience
  • Must be licensed to practice law in the state in which the candidate lives/works
  • Eager to join a growing firm, and to take ownership over projects
  • Entrepreneurial and passionate about innovation
  • Excellent legal and business judgment, with comfort working directly with clients
  • Strong organization, analytical and communication skills
  • Ability to multitask and effectively prioritize matters
  • Familiarity with NVCA forms is a plus

Responsibilities:
  • Counsel venture capital investors and emerging companies on all aspects of their legal needs, from entity formation and day-to-day operational matters to high-profile venture capital fundraisings, acquisitions and dispositions
  • Lead and/or assist in drafting, reviewing, and negotiating transaction documents
  • Help to build relationships with clients and the broader ecosystem
  • Have experience in corporate transactional work and securities-related transactions, such as M&A, private equity, joint venture, and investment funds
