Position Summary:
An A Law Firm Focus on Legal and Regulatory Matters Associate Attorney will begin with drafting and researching for Petitions, Complaints, and other matters generally involving publicly disclosed information that are false or defamatory in nature, as well as engaging in discovery and litigation. The candidate must have experience drafting pleadings, motions, and civil litigation experience.

Essential Functions:
  • Participate in all aspects of litigation and arbitration brought by or against financial advisors, firms, or individuals, including drafting and arguing pleadings and motions, taking and defending depositions, engaging in discovery, handling settlement negotiations, and conducting arbitration hearings or trials.
  • Draft pleadings, motions, appellate briefs, and other matters requiring strong writing and legal analysis skills.
  • Research involving regulatory matters. The research will likely vary as we handle matters in all 50 states.
  • Manage discovery.
  • Work with local counsel in certain jurisdictions.
  • Manage and monitor all assigned cases to ensure deadlines are met.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Senior or Managing Attorneys.
  • Ability to travel and work on legal proceedings as needed.

Qualifications & Skills:
  • JD from an ABA-accredited law school.
  • Licensed member in good standing of any state bar in the U.S.
  • 3+ years of substantive litigation experience.
  • Excellent writing and research skills, with demonstrated ability to research and apply the law to a fact pattern.
  • Willingness to learn the nuances of FINRA and other regulatory bodies.
  • Must be team-oriented and have a desire and mindset to work in a fast-paced startup operation.
  • Experience with and comfortable appearing in court, arbitrations, mediations, and/or other administrative proceedings.
  • Demonstrated experience in civil court motions and pre-trial practice.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and experience working with diverse teams.
  • Self-starter, proactive, creative thinker, problem solver, and a positive attitude.
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational and time management skills.
  • High level of integrity, respect for confidential and sensitive information.

Not Required, but preferred:
  • Financial industry experience.
  • Successfully completed one or more trials.
  • Appellate experience.
  • CA, NY, NJ, FL, CO, NC, or DC Bar.
