About the role:We are hiring an associate whose core strengths are legal research and writing. The briefs, motions and memoranda you draft will carry our arguments in trial courts across Florida and in the district courts of appeal. You will work directly with the partners on live cases from day one, with a path to hearings, depositions and trial work as you grow.
This role suits a lawyer who would rather write the dispositive motion than take the deposition, who reads cases closely, and who can turn research into a clear, persuasive argument on a deadline.
What you will do:
- Research Florida and federal law and write motions, memoranda of law, responses and replies on dispositive and discovery issues
- Draft appellate briefs, petitions and responses in the Florida district courts of appeal, and prepare partners for oral argument
- Analyze coverage questions, policy language and statutory issues and write clear, well-supported opinion letters
- Prepare case evaluations, pre-suit responses and reports to carriers and clients
- Attend hearings and, as experience grows, take depositions and second-chair trials
- Meet client billing guidelines and enter time daily
What we are looking for:
- Member of The Florida Bar in good standing
- Two or more years of civil litigation experience; insurance defense, construction or commercial litigation preferred. Strong recent graduates with judicial clerkship or law review experience will be considered
- Excellent legal research and writing, with the ability to produce a polished, well-organized motion or brief without heavy editing
- Appellate experience is a significant plus
- Comfortable with Westlaw, Florida e-filing and Microsoft Word
- Organized, responsive and able to manage several deadlines at once
Schedule and compensation
- Full-time, in our Tampa office, Monday through Friday. This is our preference.
- We will also consider part-time or contract arrangements for an experienced research and writing attorney.
- Salary based on experience.
