Bowditch & Dewey is seeking an experienced associate for our Litigation Practice Area. The associate assists and supports the assigning attorney(s) in the practice in all phases of litigation from inception through discovery and trial. This position may reside in our Boston, Southborough or Worcester office. The role offers a hybrid schedule with a minimum of three in office days. This is a full-time position.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Drafting of pleadings, motions, briefs, and correspondence with a high degree of accuracy
  • Assisting in all phases of litigation including arguing and defending motions, taking and defending depositions and participating in mediations, arbitrations and trials
  • Preparing, reviewing and analyzing voluminous discovery productions and identifying key documents for the case
  • Handling court appearances, depositions, and mediations
  • Communicating with clients, analyzing client needs, providing sound legal advice, defense plans and status updates
  • Evaluating, synthesizing and researching case law, statutes, regulations and documents impacting the firm's clients
  • Providing status updates to the assigning attorney(s)
  • Assisting in all aspects of trial preparation
  • Managing a litigation caseload, working cases from intake to conclusion
  • Helping with the training and development of more junior associates, paralegals and staff including providing supervision and guidance on client matters where appropriate
  • Other related duties as required.

Qualifications and Requirements:
  • Five (5) – ten (10) years of experience in a commercial litigation practice area
  • Must have a strong academic background with a Juris Doctorate Degree from an accredited law school.
  • Licensed to practice law in the state of Massachusetts. (Member of the Massachusetts Bar) (Multiple state Bar admissions are a plus)
