Gress, Clark, Young & Schoepper, LLC is a small and growing defense firm in Beaverton, Oregon. We represent insurers, third party administrators, and self insured employers in Oregon workers' compensation matters, and we also handle first party property insurance defense and employment litigation. We are looking for an associate who wants to build a career in litigation and become a contributing partner to our firm and our clients.What you will do:
- Manage or assist an existing caseload of workers' compensation and civil litigation matters from initial evaluation through hearing, trial and appeal
- Review medical records, claim files, and pleadings, and prepare evaluation letters and case strategy for clients
- Take and defend depositions, prepare witnesses, and present cases at hearings before the Workers' Compensation Board
- Draft motions, briefs, and pleadings in civil matters
- Advise clients on claim processing issues, including time loss, closure, permanent impairment, and vocational assistance
- Communicate directly with adjusters and clients about case status and settlement
What we are looking for:
- J.D. and active membership in the Oregon State Bar (recent graduates and candidates awaiting bar results are encouraged to apply)
- New graduates through 5 years of experience
- Strong academic and professional record
- Excellent writing and oral advocacy skills
- Strong organization and time management with a high volume caseload
- Workers' compensation, administrative law, or insurance defense experience is preferred but not required
