Job Summary:We are seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Associate Attorney to join our legal team in an established law firm with historical roots in Lincoln County. In this role, you will provide essential legal support to our family law practice group, representing clients through litigation, in-court advocacy, negotiation and mediation. Your responsibilities will include handling family law cases to a successful conclusion which will include: comprehensive legal research using tools like LexisNexis and Westlaw, drafting legal documents, assisting with case preparation, and representing clients in court. This position offers an exciting opportunity to develop your legal expertise alongside two NC State Bar board certified family law specialists while contributing to meaningful client outcomes in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct thorough legal research across multiple practice areas utilizing LexisNexis and Westlaw platforms to support case strategies and legal opinions.
- Draft and review a variety of legal documents including pleadings, contracts, memoranda, and correspondence with precision and clarity.
- Assist senior attorneys in preparing for trials, hearings, negotiations, and client meetings by organizing case files and summarizing pertinent information.
- Represent clients in family law proceedings in court, including trials concerning child custody, child support, spousal support, property division, and domestic violence.
- Support client interactions by providing updates on case status and gathering necessary documentation for ongoing matters.
- Participate in negotiations on behalf of clients to achieve favorable outcomes while adhering to ethical standards.
- Maintain accurate records of all legal research, draftings, and case-related activities within the law office's management system.
Requirements:
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school with active bar admission or eligibility for admission in the relevant jurisdiction.
- Demonstrated experience or strong interest in practicing family law and handling litigated family law matters.
- Proficiency with legal research tools such as LexisNexis and Westlaw; experience with research methods is highly desirable.
- Excellent writing skills with the ability to produce clear and persuasive legal documents.
- Strong analytical skills for interpreting statutes, regulations, case law and applying them effectively.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities efficiently within a busy legal environment.
- Legal administrative experience including managing case files and maintaining detailed records is preferred.
- Effective negotiation skills combined with a proactive approach to problem-solving.
