A Government Entity is currently accepting applications for the full-time position of Associate Attorney. The overall objective of the employee in this role is to act as general counsel to County Government by researching and advising the County Commissioners and appointed department heads upon matters of County authority and liability; taxation; and relationships with vendors, service beneficiaries, employees and other branches and agencies of government. This position is considered an exempt professional position with compensation paid on a salary basis consistent with the Fair Labor Standards Act. The position described herein shall be performed by the attorney on a full-time basis. The position will assist the Chief Solicitor and Part Time Assistant Solicitors in fulfilling the duties and responsibilities of the Solicitor's Office.

The employee in this role is responsible for but not limited to performing the following essential functions:
  • Assists in advising Commissioners and appointed department heads on legal requirements and ramifications of performance of duty, as requested.
  • Assists in performing and directing research pursuant to provision of legal opinions; preparation of contracts; establishment of authorities; and commencement of, or response to, litigation.
  • Assists in drafting and timely files legal documents with courts and other authorities; prepares or reviews contracts with vendors and funding authorities.
  • Assists in prosecuting litigation as directed by the County Commissioners.
  • Acts as Commissioners' liaison with specialized outside counsel.
  • Conducts and assists in negotiations as requested by proper authority.
  • Assists in monitoring contract compliance by the County and its vendors and contractors.
  • Assists in monitoring County departments in adherence to their statutory mandates.
  • Serves as the designated Right-to-Know Officer for A Government Entity.
  • Oversees the implementation and compliance with all applicable Right-to-Know Laws within the scope and control of the A Government Entity Board of Commissioners.
