Overview:We are seeking a dynamic and dedicated Associate Attorney to join our legal team, contributing to a diverse range of practice areas with enthusiasm and professionalism. Michael D. Barber & Associates, P.C., is a criminal defense and family law firm with offices in Atlanta and servicing the surrounding areas. We are looking to expand our practice by adding additional attorney's based in our Dunwoody Office. Fun, fast paced office, with a structure for associates that rewards good work. This role offers an exciting opportunity to engage in meaningful legal work, develop your expertise across disciplines, and support clients through complex legal matters. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a passion for law in Criminal and Family Law , strong research and writing skills, and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
Duties:
- Conduct comprehensive legal research using LexisNexis to support case strategies across various practice areas including estate planning, environmental law, family law, and securities law
- Draft clear, precise legal documents such as pleadings, contracts, memoranda, and correspondence with attention to detail and accuracy
- Assist in preparing for hearings, trials, and negotiations by organizing case files and developing legal arguments
- Support attorneys in client consultations by gathering relevant information and providing preliminary legal guidance under supervision
- Participate in negotiations with opposing counsel to help achieve favorable outcomes for clients
- Manage multiple cases efficiently by maintaining organized case files and tracking deadlines
- Stay informed on current laws and regulations affecting practice areas
- Proactive and frequent contact with clients, patience is required.
- Court appearances are primarily in Gwinnett, Walton, DeKalb, Cobb, Forsyth, Clayton, Fulton, and the municipalities they contain, however, our office does get retained in outer counties as well.

Skills:
- Strong knowledge of diverse legal fields including Criminal Law and Family Law,
- Excellent research skills utilizing LexisNexis platform to gather relevant case law and statutory information
- Exceptional legal writing skills with the ability to produce well-structured drafts that meet professional standards
- Proficiency in legal drafting for contracts, pleadings, motions, and other documents
- Effective negotiation abilities to advocate for clients' interests while maintaining professionalism
- Legal administrative experience including managing case files and tracking deadlines effectively
- Strong communication skills for clear client interactions and collaboration within the legal team. We are looking for an attorney who has practical experience, both in and out of a courtroom, and can effectively manage their own caseload, opposing counsel, and clients.
- Familiar with mycase, Odyssey, Peachcourt is a plus, but not required.
