Description:
About the Firm:Perlmutter & Pourshalimi is a boutique plaintiff's firm in Beverly Hills focused on elder and dependent adult abuse litigation and trial. We represent elders and dependent adults harmed in nursing homes, assisted living facilities, and other long-term care settings, along with people who have suffered catastrophic injuries. Our founding partners, David Pourshalimi and Ben Perlmutter, are former criminal prosecutors, and we try cases.
We value teamwork, professional growth, and long-term relationships, both with our clients and with our staff.
Hit the ground running
We're a busy trial practice looking for a litigator who can step in, take ownership of a caseload from day one, and move cases forward independently: running discovery, taking and defending depositions, and getting cases ready for mediation and trial.
Prior elder abuse, nursing home, or medical malpractice experience is NOT required. If you've litigated plaintiff personal injury, medical malpractice, insurance defense, or nursing home/healthcare defense cases, your litigation and deposition skills carry over directly.
The work
You'll handle wrongful death and catastrophic injury cases, including:
- Nursing home and assisted living neglect
- Pressure injuries (bedsores), falls, infections, malnutrition, dehydration, and medication errors
- Understaffing-related harm and wrongful death
- Rehab and detox facility negligence (overdose, injury, sexual abuse, wrongful death)
- As well as some medical malpractice cases
What You'll Do:
- Own a litigated caseload from filing through mediation, arbitration, or trial, with minimal supervision
- Handle written discovery, legal research, and law and motion; regularly appear at court hearings
- Take depositions of adverse and hostile witnesses, including facility administrators, nursing staff, and corporate designees; defend client and expert depositions
- Analyze medical records, care plans, staffing data, and incident reports, and work with nursing and medical experts on liability, causation, and damages
- Prepare trial documents and trial presentations (including PowerPoints), and try cases alongside the partners
- Communicate with clients and families regularly and with empathy
What you bring:
- Active member in good standing of the State Bar of California (required); J.D. from an accredited law school
- At least 3 years of civil litigation experience (required)
- Experience taking and defending depositions (required)
- Hands-on experience with written discovery and motion practice
- Strong analytical, legal research, and writing skills, plus solid oral advocacy
- Ability to independently manage a caseload and meet deadlines without close supervision
- Strong interest in trial work
- Ability to communicate effectively and with empathy with clients who are suffering
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Adobe Acrobat; we use Clio for case management
- Ability to work in person at our Beverly Hills office
- Real trial work. Our partners began as prosecutors trying jury trials and still try cases. Your cases are prepared to go to verdict
- Ownership and visibility. You run your own cases and work directly with the partners and our of counsel, who has litigated elder abuse and neglect cases for 30+ years
