Overview:Galloway Johnson Tompkins Burr and Smith is seeking an experienced Associate Attorney licensed in Texas to join our Houston office. This role supports a busy defense litigation practice and is ideal for an attorney ready to take ownership of matters and work closely with a senior partner on complex and high exposure cases. The position offers meaningful responsibility, direct client interaction, and continued growth within a collaborative litigation team.
This associate will primarily support a practice group that includes premises liability, personal injury, insurance defense, toxic tort, oil and gas, construction defect, products liability, commercial litigation, employment liability, and complex multiparty disputes, including death and catastrophic injury matters.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct legal research using Westlaw and LexisNexis to support case strategy and early case evaluation
- Draft pleadings, motions, discovery, briefs, and memoranda with precision and clarity
- Manage cases from intake through resolution, including discovery, depositions, and mediation preparation
- Assist with preparation for hearings, mediations, and trials by organizing evidence and case materials
- Communicate regularly with clients, insurers, opposing counsel, and experts
- Participate in depositions and hearings as appropriate
- Maintain accurate case files and ensure compliance with deadlines and court rules
- Support ongoing analysis of legal developments impacting defense litigation and client industries
Requirements:
- Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school
- Active Texas bar license in good standing
- At least 4+ of civil litigation experience, preferably in defense litigation
- Experience handling discovery, motion practice, and depositions
- Strong legal research and writing skills
- Sound judgment, attention to detail, and ability to manage competing priorities
- Ability to work independently while collaborating closely with partners and team members

Pay: $140,000.00 - $170,000.00 per year
