Description:

A well-established Florida insurance defense, insurance regulatory, complex commercial litigation, and business litigation firm, with offices in Sunrise and Tallahassee, is seeking an Associate Attorney for their Tallahassee office. The practice areas include various types of litigation including, but not limited to, first party property insurance defense, coverage opinions and declaratory judgment actions, and commercial litigation.

Three (3) to five (5) years of litigation experience is required, and experience in first party property insurance defense, coverage opinions and declaratory judgment actions, and commercial litigation would be a plus. While not required, licensure in Georgia and/or Alabama (in addition to Florida) would also be a plus.

Responsibilities include handling matters on behalf of the firm's clients including, but not limited to, researching legal issues, counseling clients, negotiating the resolution of legal disputes, and appearing in court to prosecute and defend clients' interests. This position requires a high level of detail-orientation, as well as strong analytical, research, and writing skills. The position requires thoughtful case analysis, the ability to develop detailed and case-specific litigation strategies, and a proactive and positive attitude. Job requirements include the following:
  • Analyzing and interpreting statutes, caselaw and regulations.
  • Preparing legal documents including pleadings, motions, written discovery, etc.
  • Providing strategic legal analysis and guidance.
  • Investigating the facts by interviewing witnesses, conferring with experts, researching public records and social media, and gathering information from other available sources.
  • Evaluating all aspects of exposure, including direct damages, consequential damages, attorney fees, costs, interest, and reputational harm, as well as legal issues and the likelihood of success, to develop recommendations.
  • Promptly and effectively communicating with clients on all substantive matters, including development of strategy, receipt of discovery or other sources of information, and outcome of hearings or other events.
  • Demonstrating and applying strong negotiation skills, including using available factual and legal issues as leverage and developing creative and practical proposals to resolve cases.
  • Demonstrating and applying strong courtroom skills, including the ability to explain complex legal and factual issues succinctly and persuasively (trial experience is preferred).
  • Maintaining confidentiality in all matters and complying with all legal standards and regulations.

In addition to base salary, the firm has an Additional Quarterly Compensation (AQC) program based upon billable hours whereby attorneys receive AQC when their billable hours meet or exceed 480 hours per quarter.
