Description:
Lavelle Law is seeking a motivated, detail-oriented Associate Attorney with 1 to 3 years of litigation experience to join our thriving Business Litigation practice group in Cook County and the collar counties. This role is ideal for a junior attorney looking to build a career in contested business litigation, drafting and responding to discovery, drafting and responding to motions, oral arguments in Court, and representing businesses and individuals at evidentiary hearings, trials, and arbitrations. You will work directly with experienced attorneys, handling matters across the Cook County and the greater Chicagoland area.Work from our Loop office in the Board of Trade Building.
Key Responsibilities:
- Drafting Pleadings: Complaints, Answers, and Affirmative Defenses.
- Drafting and Respond to Discovery Requests: Interrogatories, Requests for Production of Documents, and Requests to Admit.
- Drafting and Responding to Motions: Motions to Dismiss, Motions to Strike, Motions for Summary Judgment, Motions for Temporary Restraining Orders and Preliminary Injunctions.
- Court Appearances: Represent parties at status calls and case management conferences, present and argue contested motions, representing parties at trials and evidentiary hearing.
- Settlement: Attending settlement conferences and mediations with parties and judges and mediators in an effort to resolve disputed cases.
- Client Management: Interface directly with clients, corporate officers and fiduciaries, accountants, and financial institutions to prosecute and defend actions.
Qualifications:
- 1–3 years of legal experience (general civil litigation required).
- Active Illinois law license (or ability to obtain promptly).
- Familiarity with Cook County Local Rules and electronic filing systems (eFileIL / Odyssey).
- Strong legal drafting, research, and organizational skills.
- Empathetic communication style suited for clients navigating grief and family dynamics.
