Summary:This position provides legal representation to the County, its Departments and personnel in a variety of contexts described below.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Overseeing legal issues arising from Title VII, ADA and FMLA;
- Overseeing employment law cases;
- Participating in collective bargaining/union negotiations;
- Provides recommendations to clients (management), specifically office of Human Resources;
- Participates in litigation which may involve complex settlement negotiations.
In addition to the Position Summary, responsibilities may include the following:
- Reviewing and drafting contracts;
- Representing the County in general litigation matters;
- Representing the County in real estate transactions;
- Representing the County at mental health commitment hearings;
- Representing County-related boards at public meetings;
- Representing County social service agencies in administrative proceedings
- Providing day-to-day legal advice to County departments; and
- Other duties as assigned by supervising attorneys.
Qualification Requirements:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required. - At least 5 years of employment litigation experience;
- Knowledge of employment law as well as collective bargaining agreements;
- Knowledge of legal issues arising from Title VII, the ADA, FMLA, and related employment law;
- Experience defending Workers Compensation matters a plus;
- Law degree from an accredited law school and member in good standing of the Pennsylvania Bar.
