Summary:
This position provides legal representation to the County, its Departments and personnel in a variety of contexts described below.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Overseeing legal issues arising from Title VII, ADA and FMLA;
  • Overseeing employment law cases;
  • Participating in collective bargaining/union negotiations;
  • Provides recommendations to clients (management), specifically office of Human Resources;
  • Participates in litigation which may involve complex settlement negotiations.

In addition to the Position Summary, responsibilities may include the following:
  • Reviewing and drafting contracts;
  • Representing the County in general litigation matters;
  • Representing the County in real estate transactions;
  • Representing the County at mental health commitment hearings;
  • Representing County-related boards at public meetings;
  • Representing County social service agencies in administrative proceedings
  • Providing day-to-day legal advice to County departments; and
  • Other duties as assigned by supervising attorneys.

Qualification Requirements:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.   • At least 5 years of employment litigation experience;
  • Knowledge of employment law as well as collective bargaining agreements;
  • Knowledge of legal issues arising from Title VII, the ADA, FMLA, and related employment law;
  • Experience defending Workers Compensation matters a plus;
  • Law degree from an accredited law school and member in good standing of the Pennsylvania Bar.
