Description:
The Sixth Circuit Public Defender's Office is accepting applications for a full-time Assistant Public Defender in our Lancaster, South Carolina office.This attorney will provide all aspects of representation of indigent clients charged with criminal offenses in Magistrate and Municipal Court and clients participating in our diversion courts (Drug Court & Veteran's Court). You will occasionally be tasked to handle matters in General Sessions Court. As an attorney with our office, you will immediately work on significant cases and quickly gain substantial court room and jury trial experience.
The Sixth Circuit is conveniently located between Columbia and Rock Hill making for easy commuting. While most work would be completed in office, we do allow for some occasional work from home as necessary.
Candidates for this position must:
- Be a member of the South Carolina Bar in good standing
- Completion of 403 requirements preferred
- Possess excellent written and oral communication skills
- Possess proficient computer skills (Word, PowerPoint, etc.)
- Be able to conduct legal research, analyze, and interpret legal opinions
Currently licensed members of the SC Bar and those with pending SC Bar results may apply.
Attorneys can receive all annual CLE hours through attendance at the SC Public Defender Conference paid for by the office.
