General Summary:
Community Prosecution/Operation Legend is a vertical prosecution unit that handles gun violence, complex specially assigned criminal cases involving street gangs/groups and high impact offenders who are driving the crime rate within the City of Detroit. Attorneys assigned to this unit are embedded in specific police precincts and work collaboratively and proactively with our local, state, and federal law enforcement partners to assist in the investigation and prosecution of individuals involved in gun related offenses, gangs, drug trafficking, and other violent crimes.

Compensation: Compensation is commensurate with experience. Full medical benefits, as well as a retirement plan with robust time off, and paid parental leave, etc., with an annual step increase.

Qualifications: Juris Doctorate Degree; must be a member in good standing of the State Bar of Michigan; possess effective oral and written communication skills; highly organized and extremely motivated. You must have a minimum of 2 years of experience litigating violent crimes.

Typical Job Duties:
  • Prosecute non-fatal shootings and other gun violence offenses.
  • Prosecute complex and difficult cases involving gangs/groups and high impact offenders.
  • Prosecute high visibility/media cases.
  • Conduct investigative subpoenas, motion and bond hearings, preliminary examinations, trials, and sentencings.
  • Interview victims, witnesses and, in some instances, conduct investigative subpoenas.
  • Provide zealous and effective advocacy on behalf of the People of the State of Michigan.
  • Participate in Community crime prevention events and attend crime intelligence briefings.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
