Job Description:The incumbent works with and advises senior leaders, supervisors, and staff concerning legal aspects of, and the interpretation, applicability, and compliance with state and federal statutes and regulations, and constitutional provisions relating to the confinement of inmates. The incumbent will work closely with other divisions within BOP, Department of Justice officials, United States Attorneys Office staff and officials within the Executive Branch on statutory matters that affect the BOP and to resolve correctional issues.
It is anticipated the primary focus for this Attorney position will be implementation of the First Step Act of 2018, which will involve frequent collaboration with and providing advice to Central Office, Regional Office, and institution staff working throughout the BOP.
Qualifications:
Required qualifications: Applicants must have a J.D. degree, be an active member of the bar (any U.S. jurisdiction).
Preferred qualifications: Prior experience in correctional law is preferred, but not required.
Salary:
The possible salary range is: GS-12 ($102,415-$133,142), GS-13 ($121,785-158,322), GS-14 ($143,913-$187,093), or GS-15 ($169,279-$197,200).
