About the role:
We seek an Assistant General Counsel to support the Company's Data Analytics, IT, and Privacy & Security teams. In this exciting role, you will monitor industry and regulatory activity impacting An Insurance Company business and provide legal guidance regarding the rapidly changing world of data security, privacy regulation, life insurance products, and underwriting.

The successful candidate must be inquisitive, enthusiastic about the An Insurance Company mission, possess exceptional analytical and communication skills, and enjoy being continually challenged in a fast-paced and highly collaborative environment. A good sense of humor, sound judgment, and the ability to navigate conflicting priorities are also essential.
The successful candidate will have strong working knowledge and experience in a SaaS environment, delivering legal advice and solutions related to data, privacy, and security-related laws and regulations to ensure that consumer information is collected, stored, and used in compliance with all applicable laws and regulations. Experienced in drafting and negotiating complex commercial agreements in a broad range of categories, including software license agreements, marketing, human resources, and technology for a company operating within a highly regulated industry. The preferred and successful candidate will have solid experience advising on these issues in the context of life insurance and annuity products.

This role reports to our General Counsel and is open to Dallas, TX, or Remote (US) #LI-Remote.

Your Day to Day:
  • Legal support to the Data Analytics, IT, Privacy & Security, and Innovation teams.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on legal/regulatory issues related to privacy, data, and security.
  • Provide day-to-day advice on legal issues related to intellectual property and technology solutions.
  • Legal understanding of using big data to deliver SaaS solutions to enterprise partners.
  • Provide legal support in a fast-paced insure-tech start-up environment.
  • Monitor and advise on changes in laws or regulations, particularly those impacting Company strategy.
  • Assist with legal department projects as assigned, including efforts to develop, implement, and enhance processes.
  • Work with various business stakeholders to develop and implement practices that support innovation and growth while maintaining appropriate commercial risk.

Your Experience:
  • At least twelve (12) years of experience with exceptional academic and law firm credentials; at least five (5) years of in-house experience with a life insurance carrier preferred.
  • In-depth knowledge and understanding of data privacy laws and intellectual property, preferably in the life insurance industry.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with strong business acumen.
