What you'll be doing.Job Summary:
Assistant General Counsel – Consumer Affairs is responsible for carrying out a wide range of legal work for the organization. This position will manage an independent workload and will also work with the General Counsel and Deputy General Counsel to provide legal services in support of the travel businesses. Will work closely with internal marketing and copywriting teams to achieve desired business outcomes including, but not limited to, ensuring all company and partner-related marketing materials are legally compliant with applicable laws, regulations, and marketing principles. Representative matters include: managing the legal reviews for all advertising/marketing content and all public-facing content including websites, social media, customer and employee contests, and press releases; reviewing and drafting marketing and trade show contracts; and generally advising on legal issues relating to the travel insurance and assistance businesses. Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Review the organization's publications, including partner websites, social media content, internal and external contests, press releases, etc. and advise the Commercial and Marketing Departments on potential legal issues relating to such publications.
  • Conduct legal research and analysis of routine legal matters, including issues specific to marketing/advertising as it applies to the travel insurance and assistance services businesses.
  • Manage the Non Disclosure Agreement process on behalf of the Legal team.
  • Draft and prepare legal documents, including legal memoranda, agency/partner and service contracts to support the work of various departments.
  • Research, write, edit and/or enforce corporate policies and procedures in conjunction with the Legal Department and Executive Leadership.
  • Prepare legal opinions on the impact of relevant current and proposed legislation and/or regulatory changes.
  • Provide legal support to other members of the Legal Department as needed.
  • Ensure that confidentiality of the Legal Department is maintained at all times.
  • Required / Desired Knowledge, Experiences and Skills:
  • 2-3 years of legal work experience preferably within the insurance industry; specific legal experience in the area of advertising/marketing a plus.
  • Experience with contract review and identifying material contractual issues.
  • Considerable knowledge of research and analysis methods; knowledgeable and proficient use of legal research tools is required.
  • Strong ability to quickly assimilate oral and written data, to analyze facts and draw logical conclusions with a strong attention to detail.
  • Must possess excellent written and oral communications skills, with the ability to communicate skillfully with diplomacy and tact.
  • Proven strength in organizational skills, with the ability to facilitate and manage multiple tasks under tight deadlines.
  • Must be a self-starter with the ability to perform duties with deliberate speed and accuracy without immediate supervision.
  • Excellent social and interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to interact with culturally diverse staff.
  • Demonstrated thrive in a small team environment and work effectively and collaboratively with other non-legal departments.
  • Proven ability to exhibit cultural competence and sensitivity to work with a wide array of ethnicities both internally and external to the organization.
  • Ability to travel within the United States and internationally as needed.
  • Fluency in English required.
  • Must be eligible to work in the United States.

Education/Certifications:
  • JD from a competitive accredited law school.
  • License to practice law in the state of Florida or California or be registered as in-house counsel in Florida or California.

Where you'll be doing it.
This is a hybrid role based out of San Diego, CA, OR Pembroke Pines, FL. As a hybrid role, you will be working onsite 2 days a week and working from home 3 days a week.
