Montrose County is seeking an Assistant County Attorney – Human Services to provide legal representation and counsel for the Department of Human Services (DHS). This position plays a vital role in protecting the well-being of children and vulnerable adults while supporting DHS staff through complex and meaningful work.About the role:
As part of the County Attorney's Office, this position represents Montrose County in child welfare (dependency and neglect), child support enforcement, and adult protection cases. You'll manage cases from start to finish, drafting motions, researching legal issues, preparing witnesses, and presenting evidence in hearings and trials. The role also includes advising County departments on legal matters, training DHS staff on Colorado statutes, and handling appeals before the Colorado Court of Appeals and Supreme Court.

Qualifications:
- Education: Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.
- Licensure: Licensed to practice law in Colorado (or eligible for Colorado licensure).
- Experience: Minimum of two (2) years of experience in the practice of law preferred; public sector or human services experience a plus
