Job Duties:
The attorney in this position will provide the scope of real estate transaction and advice services to Virginia's agencies and authorities, including the Department of Conservation and Recreation, the Department of Forestry, the Department of Historic Resources, the Department of Wildlife Resources, the Fort Monroe Authority, the Alcoholic Beverage Control Authority and the Virginia Outdoors Foundation. Examples of the type of transactions and matters that we work on include:

The acquisition of land for new state park and wildlife management areas, as well as additions to existing state parks and wildlife management areas:
  • The donation of land for the northern Virginia science center .
  • Sale of surplus property such as Eastern State hospital
  • Real estate leasing and development at Fort Monroe in Hampton
  • The creation and enforcement of conservation easements for the conservation agencies
  • Reviewing legislation when the General Assembly is in session
  • Drafting legal opinions of the Attorney General

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Applicants must have a demonstrated ability to work independently and within a team.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills are required, as well as excellent written and oral communication skills, technical drafting skills and the ability to analyze and manage litigation and transactions.
  • All candidates must be admitted to the Virginia State Bar.
  • Starting salary and position level to be commensurate with relevant experience and qualifications.
