Job Duties:
  • The successful candidate will provide legal counsel and representation to various state agencies served by the Financial Law and Government Support Section (FLAGS).
  • Representation will include advising client agencies on matters relevant to day-to-day agency management, including advising on employment and procurement matters, reviewing and advising on Virginia Freedom of Information Act requests, issues arising under the Virginia Conflict of Interest Act, agency compliance with applicable state and federal laws and regulations, document and witness subpoenas, as well as assisting agencies with revising and updating regulations and policies.
  • Representation may also include conducting research, drafting pleadings and briefs, conducting all aspects of discovery, including motions practice, and representing FLAGS clients in litigation in Virginia state and federal courts.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Applicants will have excellent analytical abilities and written and oral communication skills and the ability to respond to legal requests in a timely fashion.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills are also required.
  • Candidates must be highly organized and detail-oriented and demonstrate the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Candidates must demonstrate the ability to work both independently and as a team player in covering the work of others when the situation demands.
  • Some litigation experience is preferred. Must be admitted to the Virginia State Bar or eligible for immediate admission.
