Description:

The Role
As a Public Defender with Yakima County, you'll provide professional legal representation for clients in District Court or Superior Court (Adult, Juvenile, and/or ITA). No two days are the same — one day you might be negotiating a plea deal, and the next you're in the courtroom presenting a case to a jury.

You'll:
  • Evaluate cases, investigate facts, and develop defense strategies.
  • Represent clients at every stage: arraignments, motions, trials, sentencing, and appeals.
  • Handle a mix of criminal and civil matters (including civil commitment, contempt, truancy, and at-risk youth).
  • Work closely with supervisors and colleagues who believe in collaboration and mentorship.

This is challenging, fast-paced, and rewarding work where you'll grow your courtroom skills while serving the community.
