About the Position:The Yakima County Prosecuting Attorney's Office is seeking highly motivated and experienced attorneys to join our team at the Attorney II, Attorney III, and Attorney IV levels. These positions provide an excellent opportunity to work in a professional, collegial, and fast-paced environment while handling a wide variety of criminal and civil matters.
Assignments are made at the discretion of the Prosecutor and may include Juvenile, District Court, Felony, or Special Assault divisions. Attorneys in these roles handle cases of moderate to high complexity and seriousness, with varying levels of supervision depending on experience.
Key Responsibilities:
- Criminal Law: Evaluate cases, review reports, make charging decisions, negotiate pleas, prepare trial strategies, and represent the State at hearings and trials.
- Civil Law: Represent the State or clients in child support enforcement, civil commitment, truancy, at-risk youth, dependency proceedings, and related matters.
- Corporate Counsel Civil Matters: Draft ordinances, resolutions, and contracts; provide legal advice and training to County officials and employees.
- Courtroom Representation: Conduct jury selection, opening and closing arguments, direct and cross examinations, and post-trial motions.
- Additional Duties: Prepare appellate briefs, legal correspondence, and participate in office and community training programs.
Qualifications:
Attorney II
- Admission to the Washington State Bar
- Minimum of four (4) years of law practice experience
- Admission to the Washington State Bar
- Admission to practice before the Washington State Supreme Court
- Minimum of eight (8) years of law practice experience
- Admission to the Washington State Bar
- Admission to practice before the Washington State Supreme Court
- Minimum of twelve (12) years of law practice experience
Additional Requirements:
- Valid Washington State driver's license and proof of insurance at time of employment
- Successful completion of a background check, including fingerprinting
