Smith Haughey Rice and Roegge seeks 2027 summer associates to join the team in our Grand Rapids, MI office. We design our summer associate program to expose law students to as much of the firm as possible, so that they can make a truly informed decision about their next step down the professional path.Throughout the summer, Smith Haughey assigns projects to ensure that summer associates explore the firm, its members, and multiple practice areas. During frequent meetings, the hiring partners coordinate summer associate schedules to provide them with opportunities to attend and observe hearings, lay and expert depositions, mediations, client meetings, and trials. The hiring partners also serves as mentors, answering questions, providing feedback, and facilitating assimilation of the summer associate within the firm.
Smith Haughey's summer associate program is for students who will have completed their second year of law school at the time they begin the program. We hold interviews during the summer months for the following summer program. The program begins in May and ends in August. All summer associates participate in an exit interview at the end of the summer. Upon completion of those interviews, the hiring committee convenes to make associate hiring decisions for the following year.
