Steptoe LLP seeks a 2L Summer Associate with an interest in joining the Firm's Financial Innovation & Regulations practice group in our Washington, DC office for the 2027 Summer Associate Program. This team, part of Steptoe's Government Affairs & Public Policy practice group, advises clients on the legal and regulatory issues arising from emerging financial technologies and innovations in global markets. We counsel banks, fintech companies, digital asset platforms, payment processors, and other market participants on compliance, risk management, and engagement with regulators.About the Program
Steptoe's 10-week Summer Associate Program is one of the most important elements of the firm's recruitment effort. The summer program offers a well-rounded overview of the firm's practices and exposing summer associates to substantive legal work; aimed to provide a realistic view being an associate at Steptoe from day one. During the summer, the Summer Associate will participate in trainings, work day to day with highly recognized attorneys and build relationships that will be essential to their career.
Ideal Candidate Qualifications:
- Proven track record of academic and professional excellence
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Exceptional writing and analytical skills
- Leadership qualities and personal initiative
- Demonstrated interest in financial regulation, fintech, or emerging technology law
- Prior experience with financial services regulators (e.g., SEC, CFTC, Treasury, NYDFS) is a plus

Compensation for this position is based upon an annualized salary of $225,000.
