An International Law Firm is seeking 2L summer associates to join us for our 10 week 2025 Summer Associate Program. Our program offers summer associates a realistic introduction to the practice of law and day-to-day life as a McDermott associate. The summer associate program provides meaningful responsibility and feedback that is consistent with a junior associate experience. Summer associates are given the opportunity to accept assignments with many of our practice groups during the summer. This allows summers to experience the type of work they are interested in first-hand and ultimately steer them toward the type of work they enjoy.
In 2025, we will host formal summer programs in our Austin, Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Los Angeles, Miami, New York, San Francisco and Washington, DC offices. With the exception of our Intellectual Property group, An International Law Firm does not hire summer associates into specific practice areas. However, our first-year associates are placed into practice areas. Therefore, we seek to align summer associates general practice interests with local office practice representation. Below is an overview of the general practice areas which we expect to place our 2025 summer class as first year associates.
New York: Corporate Advisory (M&A/Private Equity, Finance, Real Estate, Restructuring), Intellectual Property Litigation, Litigation, Private Client (Trusts & Estates)
Applicants are asked to submit the following materials:
- A resume and writing sample
- A cover letter (indicating practice area(s) of interest)
- An undergraduate transcript and most up to date law school transcript

Eligibility:
The 2L Inclusion Fellowship is open to all second-year law students that apply and will be awarded on a competitive basis. To be considered, the candidate must:
- Submit a personal statement of 1000 words or less that narrates why the applicant wants to be a lawyer and what justice, diversity, equity, and inclusion (JDEI) at a law firm means to them submitted to 2LInclusionFellowship@mwe.com (additional information below)
- Have an anticipated JD graduation date in Spring 2026 at the time of application from an ABA-accredited law school
- Demonstrate a commitment to promoting justice, diversity, equity and inclusion (JDEI) within the firm as a product of life experiences or challenges/obstacles in advancing professional objectives
- Receive and accept a 2025 Summer Program offer
- Participate in the first 8 weeks or full 10 weeks of the 2025 Summer Program
- Not be the recipient of a similar diversity award from another Firm during the same period
