VP & Assistant General Counsel, Real Estate of A Hospitality Company, a leading lodging company with a diverse portfolio of iconic and market-leading hotels and resorts consisting of 39 premium-branded assets with approximately 25,000 rooms. The position will be based in Tysons, VA. The attorney should have at least fifteen years of relevant experience working for a law firm and/or as in-house counsel (at least seven years' experience in the lodging industry is a plus).

What will be I doing?
  • Operating as the primary business lawyer and risk manager for a portion of the overall 39-hotel portfolio of A Hospitality Company
  • Leading and/or working on a wide variety of legal matters and projects arising from the day-to-day operation of hotel assets, including negotiations or problem solving with third-party hotel operators or franchisors
  • Managing, drafting, negotiating and/or reviewing a wide range of documents, including hotel management agreements, service agreements, construction agreements, development agreements, utility contracts, easements, leases and subleases
  • Drafting and negotiating a variety of other commercial and corporate contracts, including confidentiality agreements, vendor contracts, consulting agreements and license agreements
  • Resolving disputes with vendors, landlords, tenants, lenders, managers, service providers, joint venture partners and others
  • Managing, drafting and negotiating joint venture agreements and company formation documents
  • Participating in development, acquisition and disposition transactions, including entitlements, purchase and sale agreement negotiation, contract review and other due diligence
  • Supervising outside counsel on various litigation matters and other disputes
  • Participating in the oversight of various insurance claims and related matters
  • Conducting effective management and leveraging of outside attorneys and other third-party service providers

What qualifications do I need?
  • 15+ years of experience at a law firm or in-house counsel
  • JD from accredited law school
  • Bar membership in good standing
  • Excellent writing, editing, contract drafting and oral advocacy skills
  • Superior consulting, analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Extremely responsive and a collaborative team player
  • Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to handle multiple, high priority projects in a highly demanding environment
  • Hands-on, energetic and motivated self-starter
  • Excellent judgment and common sense
  • A practical, business-oriented approach to solving problems

What capabilities would it be advantageous to have?
