Position Summary:
Under general guidance and supervision, the Vice President Employement & Litigation Counsel is responsible for overseeing and supervising all aspects of the company's response to litigation and providing advice and guidance to wide range of employment law related matters. The candidate will be responsible for managing all commercial (non malpractice) litigation, with an emphasis on employment-related litigation. The role requires expertise in employment law and litigation, strong leadership skills and the ability to formulate and execute effective legal strategies.

  • Reporting directly to the Chief Legal Officer, primary role will be to handle non-insured legal disputes for the organization and analyze potential risks, providing legal advice on litigation strategy and negotiating settlements and resolutions of adverse legal proceedings.
  • Selected individual will be advising on labor laws, employment contracts, workplace policies and various employment related compliance issues.
  • Work closely with human resource teams to address employee related legal concerns, conduct legal research and draft employment related documents.
  • Provides legal review and/or advice to facility administration; participates in the development of system policies and procedures; reviews contracts; and, negotiates and facilitates transactions.
  • Manage outside attorneys and provide guidance on legal matters related to commercial litigation and employment law.
  • Interfaces with all corporate departments to provide advice on employment and litigation legal issues.
  • Assists with compliance investigations as needed. Coordinates with Compliance Department.
  • Participates in activities that increase legal knowledge, professional expertise, and the delivery of quality legal services. Conducts educational sessions, prepares compliance plans, prepares and facilitates implementation plans.
  • Requests and utilizes interdepartmental services as they pertain to the provision of legal services; establishes and maintains working relationships with all department personnel relative to legal service function.
  • Assists in development of methods for achieving goals such as competitive bids, form agreements, reviews legal resources, and system policies within legal limits.
  • Uses skill, knowledge and experience to assist company in amicably resolving disputes with third parties.

Education and Experience:
  • Qualified candidate will be an attorney with a Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school and current license to practice law
  • Must have a minimum of 7 years experience in commercial non-insured litigation with concentrated experience in employment law. First chair experience and previous law firm experience preferred.
