Deputy Attorneys General, with critical support from criminal special investigators, victim service specialists, paraprofessionals, and administrative staff, prosecute criminal cases, enforce consumer laws, provide counsel to state agencies, ensure the public's access to open government, protect the abused, and much more.

Summary Statement
The Delaware Department of Justice is looking for a highly motivated attorney with a strong commitment to public service to serve as the Unit Head for the Environmental Unit in the Civil Division.

Essential Functions:
This Unit Head's duties include directing and managing the Unit while appropriately handling the substantive work of the Unit. This Unit provides legal advice and representation to the Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control (“DNREC”), which includes the following Divisions: Waste and Hazardous Substances, Fish & Wildlife, Parks & Recreation, Watershed Stewardship, Water, Coastal Climate & Energy, and Environmental Crimes Unit.

This Unit's general legal counsel work includes the provision of the following categories of legal services to DNREC and its Divisions: general legal advice, drafting/reviewing legislation and regulations, drafting/reviewing contracts, and defending DNREC before administrative boards including the Environmental Appeals Board, the Coastal Zone Industrial Control Board, the Public Service Commission, and the Superior Court. The Unit Head will also advise on matters involving human relations and risk management.

Job Requirements:
The successful candidate for this leadership position will have prior management experience, high levels of proficiency in each of the aforementioned subject areas, will actively promote the concept of proactive counseling for the Unit as a whole, and be capable of managing multiple complex legal matters simultaneously. The successful candidate will be able to provide guidance and support to members of the Unit, as well as be able to handle the Unit's personnel matters appropriately and with discretion. Membership in the Delaware bar is required.
