Position Overview:
Fidelity National Financial (FNF) and its family of companies, is seeking an entrepreneurial and motivated Underwriting Counsel to support our agency operations in Mississippi. This position plays a key role in supporting title agents, resolving complex underwriting issues, and educating customers on the best title practices, all while helping move real estate transactions toward a successful closing. The role has outstanding opportunities for growth, development and advancement. You will be a legal and strategic partner, working alongside our sales team to deliver value through training, consulting, and hands-on support.

Location:
This is an onsite position in our Flowood, MS office with some travel required.

Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Provides underwriting support, counsel, and authorization to title agents, company personnel, and their respective customer(s), related to the issuance of real estate title insurance commitments and policies.
  • Advises company personnel in the performance of real estate settlement services.
  • Issues underwriting standards and guidelines in accordance with established company processes.
  • Underwrites the issuance of title insurance utilizing underwriting standards and guidelines within delegated authority limits.
  • Maintains current general knowledge of Federal and State regulations related to real estate title insurance and settlement services.
  • Maintains current understanding of underwriting real estate transactions for the issuance of title insurance policies.
  • Help customers and their clients get transactions to the finish line with professionalism, agility, and deep legal insight.
  • Build and maintain a reputation as a trusted legal advisor and champion for agent success.
  • Delivers internal and external educational public presentations on underwriting topics.

Minimum Requirements:
  • JD from an accredited law school and active license to practice law in Mississippi.
  • A minimum of 2+ years of experience in transactional legal work.
  • Exceptional communication and presentation skills with the ability to lead in-person and virtual education sessions.
  • Ability to assess risk and address problems with a solution-focused attitude and an eye toward practicality.
  • Ability to analyze complex title matters and make sound underwriting decisions.
  • Willingness to work with other Underwriting Counsel in a team environment.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to multi-task, prioritize and work under pressure.
  • Strong and accurate attention to detail.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.

Preferred Experience:
  • Knowledge of real estate transactions, title insurance practices, and related legal principles.
  • Title insurance underwriting experience.
