Fox Rothschild LLP has an opening in San Francisco, CA to join our Taxation & Wealth Planning Department. The ideal candidate will have three to five years of experience with estate planning and trust administration. Our Trust & Estate Practice is nationally recognized for advising high-net-worth individuals and families on complex estate planning, tax strategies, and wealth preservation. We also often represent upper-middle class family members, with whom the associate will receive face-to-face exposure and experience. This position offers client interaction, and the chance to work on complex matters for a nationally recognized firm that values collaboration and your expertise. Qualifications:
  • Juris Doctorate (JD) is required. Must be licensed to practice in the State of California.
  • Admission to practice in U.S. Tax Court is a plus but not required.
  • LLM in Taxation is a plus but not required.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
  • A desire to learn this area of law thoroughly, become a specialist, and curiosity about clients and the legal work involved, is essential.
  • Prepare initial drafts of estate plans for existing clients, including those with complicated family dynamics and structures.
  • Assist with restatements of existing clients' plans and funding of revocable trusts.
  • Handle trust administration cases, including division of existing irrevocable trusts into sub-trusts and drafting pleadings and managing trust cases in probate court.
  • Draft pleadings and handle probate court cases.
  • Interface with tax litigators and independent valuation experts and accountants.
  • Review and negotiate fee agreements with experts, trustees, appraisers, and tax preparers.
  • Draft indemnity agreements and coordinate with valuation professionals.
  • Foundational knowledge and ability to review federal gift and estate tax returns; foundational knowledge of gift, estate, income, and California property tax planning concepts.

Work Environment & Physical Demands:
This job operates in a clerical, office setting. This role routinely uses standard office equipment including, but not limited to computers, telephones, printers, and copiers.

Physical Requirements:
Sedentary work: Exertion of physical strength to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects up to 10 pounds. Work involves sitting most of the time. Walking and standing is often necessary in carrying out job duties.
