An Insurance Company is seeking an experienced Sr./Trial Attorney for our Elmsford (Westchester County), New York Staff Counsel operations. This is a hybrid position with mandatory two days per week in the office. We will consider a remote option from the Metro NY area for the right candidate. The attorney, with the assistance of a talented support staff, will be responsible for the defense of the case from start to resolution. The position requires exceptional client communication skills, documented trial skills as well as the ability to report and respond to the carrier with insight and timeliness. The position requires exceptional client communication skills, courtroom experience (civil or criminal) and the ability to timely report and respond to the carrier with insight and value-added analysis. Responsibilities:
- Defend personal injury, property damage and other matters in New York City. (Specifically, Manhattan, Brooklyn or and Queens).
- Prepare pleadings, motions, briefs, letters, memoranda, reports and on occasion appeals.
- Directs and undertakes discovery practice including depositions, expert selection and all other pre-trial preparations.
- Communicates with, meets and regularly updates the client and claims personnel regarding the status of pending matters. Communicates with opposing counsel, the courts and others as needed.
- Researches and briefs issues using Lexis and other computer/web based data sources, law reporters and other law library materials.
- Develops litigation strategy for all assigned cases.
- Provides analysis to claims in the form of legal opinions, recommendations and digests of recent developments in decisional and statutory law.
- Reports to managing attorney concerning status of matters and provides other information as requested.
- Tries cases to conclusion before judges, juries and other triers of fact including ADR.
Qualifications:
Knowledge and Requirements
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Strong legal research and writing skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook and Edge or Chrome.
- Must have valid state-issued driver's license in good standing.
Education and Experience:
- At least 7+ years' experience in New York.
- Juris Doctor degree from ABA accredited law school.
- Member in good standing of the New York Bar.
- Knowledge of/familiarity with New York laws, local court policies and procedures.
