Position Summary:
Montgomery Steele is seeking an experienced Trial Attorney to lead and manage high-value personal injury litigation through trial. This position is ideal for a seasoned litigator who thrives in the courtroom, possesses strong case evaluation and negotiation skills, and is committed to securing outstanding outcomes for clients.

The Trial Attorney will be responsible for handling complex litigation matters from filing through verdict, including trial preparation, depositions, motion practice, mediations, arbitrations, and jury trials. This role offers significant autonomy, support from experienced litigation staff, and the opportunity to play a key leadership role within a growing plaintiff's firm.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage a litigation caseload consisting of serious injury and complex personal injury matters.
  • Develop and execute litigation and trial strategy from inception through resolution.
  • Conduct and defend depositions of parties, witnesses, medical providers, experts, and corporate representatives.
  • Prepare and argue motions, including motions to compel, summary judgment oppositions, motions in limine, and other pretrial matters.
  • Represent clients at court appearances, hearings, settlement conferences, mediations, arbitrations, and trials.
  • Prepare cases for trial, including witness preparation, exhibit preparation, jury instructions, verdict forms, and trial presentation.
  • Conduct jury trials and serve as first chair or lead trial counsel.
  • Evaluate settlement opportunities and negotiate with defense counsel and insurance carriers.
  • Mentor associate attorneys and litigation support staff.
  • Collaborate with firm leadership on case strategy, risk assessment, and litigation management.
  • Maintain compliance with all court deadlines and procedural requirements.

Qualifications:
  • Active membership in good standing with the California State Bar.
  • Minimum 5 years of civil litigation experience.
  • Significant personal injury litigation experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated first-chair or second-chair trial experience.
  • Strong deposition, motion practice, and courtroom advocacy skills.
  • Excellent negotiation and case valuation abilities.
  • Exceptional legal writing, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Ability to independently manage a substantial litigation caseload.
  • Strong leadership and mentorship capabilities.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Plaintiff-side personal injury trial experience.
  • Multiple jury trial verdicts as lead counsel.
  • Experience handling catastrophic injury, wrongful death, premises liability, trucking, and traumatic brain injury cases.
  • Familiarity with litigation technology and trial presentation software.
