Seeking an experienced trademark attorney who is humble, hungry, and smart. She or he is likely a quiet genius. He or she knows a LOT about trademark and copyright law, and loves learning more, but is humble. They're eager to work and have a sense of urgency about getting things done. They HUSTLE: always looking to fill a gap in work and thinking of more things we can do to protect our clients' intellectual property. WILLING TO PLAY ANY ROLE on small but mighty, growing law firm.

We are an entrepreneurial trademark firm on track for aggressive growth and we need a trademark lawyer with at least 5 years of experience to join our team and work directly with the owner and other attorneys to support our clients.

We are known for helping our clients protect their businesses and brands.

We are growing fast, and we need a lawyer who can work during U.S. MST hours and hit the ground running.

Duties:
This position will be responsible for important work, including:
  • Taking the lead in researching, analyzing and communicating to clients the results of trademark searches;
  • Filing new trademark applications;
  • Working with clients to find appropriate specimens of use for Statements of Use and Renewals (and then filing those documents);
  • Researching and preparing persuasive Responses to Office Actions from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office;
  • Proactively monitoring clients' trademarks for infringement;
  • Preparing Letters of Protest, Cease and desist letters or correspondence to opposing parties when necessary;
  • Drafting documents and counseling clients in Trademark Trial and Appeal Board matters;
  • Other projects as assigned.

Necessary Characteristics and Qualities
  • You smile when you answer the phone
  • You feel a sense of urgency and understand that trademark filings are time sensitive. Not because you want to get it off of your plate and cruise the internet, but because you want to give our clients answers to their burning questions sooner rather than later
  • You respond promptly to communications and are able to communicate with the team and clients in real time
  • You have a sickening degree of attention to detail
  • You will keep contemporaneous time entries and use our preferred practice management system and not burden our legal assistant with handwritten time entries, random emails, or other unacceptable ways of keeping track of your time
  • You are an awesome juggler of tasks and can change gears quickly
  • You do not whine about tasks that are “beneath you”.

Qualifications:
  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school
  • Admission to the state bar association
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience practicing intellectual property law
