A brand can be infringed by a competitor, copied overnight by a pirate, and tested by a technology no authority has yet addressed. Wilson Sonsini's Trademark and Advertising practice helps its cutting-edge clients, from AI and biotech startups to game-changing public companies, vet, build and enforce their brands and marketing campaigns, and defend them when it counts.You'll work the full arc of brand protection and advertising matters. That means clearing and prosecuting trademarks, bringing and defending trademark oppositions, and enforcing rights through demand letters, domain disputes, takedowns, and federal litigation when it's warranted. On the advertising side, you'll advise on marketing claims, stop competitors from saying things they shouldn't, and help clients defend their content. Our clients have global ambitions from the get-go, so you'll shape strategy to build, police and defend brands across borders.
Some work will have no clear precedent. You'll counsel on AI-generated voices and likenesses, virtual worlds, influencer marketing, and technology that didn't exist when the rules were written, often before a problem reaches a courtroom.
We're looking for an associate with 2-5 years of experience in trademark, copyright, advertising, and Internet liability who is drawn to boundary-pushing clients, contested matters and unsettled law, and who wants real ownership of enforcement and dispute work. You bring superior academic credentials, sharp writing, a clear speaking voice, an ability to think creatively and practically, and the interpersonal skill to earn both client and colleague trust quickly. A sense of humor is always appreciated. We will consider candidates for San Francisco, Palo Alto, Seattle, New York, Boston, or D.C. .
The compensation range and benefits for this role are described below.
- $235,000 - $365,000 salary, based on year classification.
- Discretionary merit bonuses may also be awarded.
