Description:

A Non-Profit Law Firm is a non-profit law firm serving the Durham community. We have income-based fees to make legal justice more accessible to everyone in our community. We are currently seeking an experienced Tenancy attorney to join our team as a contractor, on an as-needed basis. This position may be best as supplemental income for someone currently operating their own practice or seeking part-time work.

Responsibilities:

Represent clients in legal proceedings related to landlord-tenant disputes, evictions, lease agreements, and housing discrimination
Provide legal advice and guidance to clients on matters related to tenancy law
Draft legal documents, including pleadings and motions
Negotiate with opposing counsel to reach settlement agreements when possible
Work closely with clients to develop legal strategies that meet their unique circumstances and goals
Manage client relationships and expectations.

Requirements:

Active NC bar membership in good standing
At least 3 years of experience practicing law
Ability to work independently and manage a caseload
Strong negotiation and advocacy skills
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills This is a contract position, and compensation will be based on an hourly rate commensurate with experience. The starting pay rate for contractors is $50-$75 per billable hour collected. This is a remote position — no office space is currently available. Candidates must have access to reliable and secure internet (no working on unsecured or publicly shared Wi-Fi).
