Job Description:NYLAG's Community Access Programs Unit (CAPU) and Employment Law Project (ELP) have an immediate opening for a Temporary Staff Attorney (6 Months) to work on an existing docket of unemployment insurance cases. The Staff Attorney will review and analyze Unemployment Insurance Appeal Board cases, propose next steps to CAPU and ELP Directors, and advise and represent clients on pending unemployment insurance cases. The Staff Attorney will be supervised jointly by the Director of the Employment Law Project and the Director of the Community Access Programs Unit.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Analyze a docket of approximately 150 unemployment cases to determine next steps.
- Provide direct representation, advice, and consultation on unemployment insurance law matters.
- Litigate a smaller docket of cases at the appeal level.
- Complete administrative duties including updating NYLAG case management records, maintaining and updating files and case notes, and coordinating case closing of cases.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- JD from an accredited law school, admission to the NYS Bar.
- Up to five years of employment law experience.
- Experience handling unemployment insurance cases preferred.
- Demonstrated strong communication skills with both clients and colleagues.
- Demonstrated strong analytical and organizational skills with keen attention to detail.
- Demonstrated ability to respond promptly to high volume communications.
- Demonstrated ability to work both collaboratively with a team as well as independently.

Salary Range: NYLAG is a unionized workplace, and salaries are set pursuant to a collective bargaining agreement. The current salary range for this position is between $90,262 and $100,532, pro-rated for time worked (6 Months).
