Our backgrounds give us strategic insights to help clients achieve their legal and policy goals. We are dedicated to providing our clients with personal attention and excellent, efficient, and timely representation. We believe in our clients, and that simple principle drives our law practice.

The firm is looking for a lawyer with approximately 3-5 years of experience practicing in the areas of nonprofit tax-exempt organizations and/or campaign finance law. Representative responsibilities include:
  • Providing exempt organization tax law advice, such as assisting with applications for tax-exempt status, and solving complicated tax problems regarding advocacy rules, unrelated business tax, and other matters;
  • Nonprofit corporate governance counseling, such as establishing and restructuring nonprofits, advising on internal processes, structuring corporate boards and advisory committees, and resolving ethical dilemmas;
  • Defending nonprofits facing campaign-finance, IRS and Congressional investigations;
  • Advising on compliance with lobbying reporting and disclosure requirements, including the Lobbying Disclosure Act (LDA), Foreign Agents Registration Act (FARA), congressional and executive branch ethics rules, and state lobbying, ethics, and ballot measure laws;
  • Establishing PACs and counseling nonprofits and candidates on all aspects of campaign compliance, such as campaign-finance fundraising, spending and reporting requirements;
  • Advising on compliance with federal and state law for voter registration and get-out-the-vote drives;
  • Contract drafting and advising, such as negotiating mergers, cause-related deals, and vendor agreements, and drafting and reviewing grant agreements and procedures; and
  • Troubleshooting new projects and programs.

The ideal candidate will have admission to the D.C. Bar or a state bar with reciprocity, excellent academic credentials and writing skills, 3-5 years of legal experience working in one or more of the practice areas described above, and a strong commitment to furthering nonprofit and political work. Experience at nonprofit organizations, labor unions, or with political campaigns is preferred. A successful candidate will be able to work on multiple projects simultaneously in various areas of law and have a team orientation and a collaborative disposition.

Washington, D.C., location is strongly preferred, but remote or hybrid candidates will also be considered. Compensation will be tied to experience, ranging from $150,000 to $175,000 annually. The firm offers a generous benefits package.
