Position Description:
Legal Services of the Hudson Valley (LSHV) has immediate openings in our Yonkers office for a full-time Supervising Attorney to supervise our domestic violence, immigration and general practice attorneys with a heavy emphasis on family court.
Duties of the Position:
- Supervise assigned case handlers in their provision of legal services over a wide range of practice areas; supervise support staff of paralegals and or administrative personnel as needed
- Accompany case handlers to court and provide support in administrative hearings and litigation
- Ensure training and development of case handlers in matters of law and programmatic policies and procedures and grantor compliance
- Conduct regular case reviews with case handlers and provide guidance on maintaining complete case files; review closed cases
- In coordination with office Attorney in Charge (AIC), assign casework.
- Partner with and support the AIC in affirmative litigation, office management and program compliance
- Liaise with community partner agencies
Qualifications:
- JD and member in good standing of the New York State Bar;
- Five or more years of legal experience and at least three years of family law experience;
- Understanding of the nature and dynamics of domestic violence;
- Excellent people skills;
- Prior supervisory experience;
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
- Ability to work effectively with a diverse group of stakeholders.
Preferred:
- Demonstrated commitment to serving low-income persons with prior experience in legal services or similar program;
- English/Spanish bilingual
- Experience representing clients in family court proceedings.
