Statement of Duties
General Statement of Duties:
Supervises a Team that Provides Highly Complex Legal Services, Especially Legal Research, for The Entire Bench in A Judicial District.

Distinguishing Factors:
Positions in This Classification Are Distinguished from Other Classifications by The Focus on Supervising Legal Research Attorneys in Addition to Performing the Most Complex Legal Services for A District. the Ratio of Legal Research Attorney (lra) Reports for Each Supervising Legal Research Attorney Should Be 6 Lra Fte to 1 Supervisor Fte.

Essential Functions:
  • Researches Legal Issues Presented by Parties During Litigation.
  • Advises Judges on Research Results and Assists the Judge in Developing an Appropriate Course of Action in The Case.
  • Writes the First Draft of Opinions Issued by The Court.
  • Reviews Documents and Pleadings Filed with The Court as Assigned by Individual Judges.
  • Compiles Information Gained from Research on Issues in A Case.
  • Advises the District on Legal Research and Writing Issues.
  • Recommends Library Materials for Research and Reference Purposes, and Provides General Support for District Library.
  • Establishes Expectations and Provides Employee Performance Feedback on An Ongoing and Annual Basis. Supervises Staff by Guiding, Coaching, Mentoring, and Approving Leave.
  • Establishes Policies and Procedures to Ensure Consistency in Work Processes and Communication.
  • Makes Provisions for Employees to Attend Training.
  • Participates in Recruitment, Hiring and Orientation of New Staff. Provides Input Into the Disciplinary and Dismissal Processes.
  • May Travel to Multiple Locations Within the District as Required.
  • Attends Meetings and Training as Required.
  • Performs Other Duties as Assigned.

Supervisor Responsibilities:
Has Supervisory Accountability for Other Employees, Volunteers, or Interns. Plans, Directs and Coordinates Activities for A Unit. Duties May Include Scheduling and Assigning of Work, Training in All Facets of Work, Quality Control, and Decisions Impacting the Pay, Status and Tenure of Others. Conducts Performance Appraisals, and Provides Input Into and Participates in Discipline, Dismissal, and Hiring Processes.

Minimum Qualifications:
Minimum Education:
Graduation from An Accredited Law School; Possession of A Certificate of Admission to The Bar of The State of Colorado; Eligibility to Practice Law Before the Courts of The State of Colorado; and Two Years of Experience in The Practice of Law. Supervisory Experience Preferred.

Physical Demands:
While Performing the Duties of This Job, the Employee Is Regularly Required to Sit and Talk or Hear. the Employee Must Occasionally Lift And/or Move up To 25 Pounds.
