Position Overview:
We are seeking a highly experienced Supervising Attorney to join the Hope's Door Legal Center team, providing vital support to survivors of domestic violence with information, legal advice, and representation in family law, matrimonial actions, custody and visitation, child support, and orders of protection. The ideal candidate will be passionate about serving marginalized communities and committed to ensuring justice and safety for domestic violence survivors.
Key Responsibilities:
- The Supervising Attorney will supervise and mentor staff attorneys, provide consultations and strategic guidance, review pleadings, motions, and represent a limited caseload of clients directly in court.
- Oversee staff attorneys, ensuring strong legal strategies and professional development.
- Conduct consultations and provide legal advice to clients.
- Write, review and approve pleadings, motions, and court submissions.
- Represent clients in Westchester County courts on select matters.
- Collaborate with the Chief of Legal Services and community partners to strengthen legal advocacy for survivors.
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree and admission to practice law in New York State, in good standing.
- 10+ years of legal experience, including litigation, negotiation and drafting, in family law, preferably DV practice.
- Strong leadership skills with proven experience mentoring attorneys.
- Commitment to trauma informed, culturally competent legal advocacy.
- Bilingual in Spanish preferred.
Salary & Benefits:
Supervising Attorney Salary Range: $50,000 - $55,000
20 hours per week
Benefits:
Sick Time: 1 hour accrued for every 30 hours worked.
Eligibility for the organization's 401K plan on the 1st of the month following date of hire.
