Job Summary: The Supervising Attorney provides attorney leadership to ensure that TOCLA achieves its overall mission to professionally, effectively, and fairly administer justice to the Tulalip Community as an essential sign of sovereignty. Is responsible for facilitating the quality delivery of legal services by fostering a culture that values excellence, teamwork, respect and recognition. Will lead, manage, and support the legal personnel who provide direct client representation. Also develop, maintain, and disseminate legal information (e.g., cases, statutes, and regulations) to provide support to the legal team and assures staffs knowledge remains up to date. Works closely with and reports to the Court Director in addition to working closely with and coordinating office services with the TOCLA Operations Manager.

Minimum Required Education
Juris Doctorate from an ABA accredited law school.

Minimum Related Experience
  • Ten (10) years of experience with either representing clients in civil cases, working in civil legal aid or other court systems, representing tribal members in a court system.
  • Five (5) years of legal experience with strong litigation skills.
  • Three (3) years of experience successfully managing or supervising others in a professional environment.

Required Licenses/Certificates/Prerequisites
  • Must be a member of the Tulalip Tribal Bar. *Will allow six (6) months to obtain.
  • Must be a member of a Washington state bar with the ability to become a Washington State Bar Association member. *Will allow six (6) months to obtain a WA state Bar Association.
  • Licensed to practice law in the state of Washington.
  • Licensed to practice law in Tulalip Tribal Courts. *Will allow six (6) months to obtain.
  • Must be admitted to practice in all Washington State Courts.
  • Certificate of Good Standing from licensing bar association.
  • Must adhere to The Tulalip Tribal Court Ethics – Code of Conduct Court Employees Policy.
  • Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a pre-employment background check.
