About Us:Lawyers for Good Government (L4GG)'s mission is to mobilize lawyers to ensure that all levels of government — federal, state, and local— promote equal justice under the law and uphold civil and human rights, including the right to health and the right to live in a healthy environment.
L4GG is a community of 125,000 lawyers, law students, and activists fighting to protect equal rights, ensure equal justice, and create equal opportunities for every person. We identify where lawyers can make the greatest impact and mobilize them to defend democracy and the rule of law, protect civil and human rights, and advance environmental justice for all Americans.
In the absence of federal leadership on climate issues, L4GG's Climate Change and Environmental Justice Program tackles the causes and effects of climate change by providing legal resources and services to states, local governments, NGOs, and frontline communities to expedite the country's just transition to a green economy and to directly address environmental racism.
To meet its mission, L4GG is in pursuit of three goals:
- Expedite the shift to clean energy at the state and local level.
- Help disadvantaged communities obtain and protect federal funding for climate resilience, clean energy, and climate justice projects.
- Directly assist marginalized communities to secure access to clean, affordable drinking water.

Responsibilities:
We're seeking a supervising attorney with significant experience in project finance to help lead L4GG's effort to help finance community-driven clean energy and environmental projects, thereby implementing a just transition to the green economy. This person would help lead the Clean Energy team's green financing efforts and in assisting hundreds of state agencies, local agencies, green banks, and CBOs looking to identify and leverage green financing options. This person would report to the Director of Clean Energy.
Specific job responsibilities include:
- Develop L4GG's scope of services for green financing
- Develop and manage partnerships, including green banks, CDFIs, etc
- Supervise L4GG products and services for green financing
- Identify opportunities and vulnerabilities in delivering our green financing services
- Provide internal training and education to Clean Energy lawyers
- Help manage rapid response tasks and contribute to forward-looking strategies to achieve Clean Energy's annual goals
- Execute tasks as directed by Vice President of CCEJ or Director of Clean Energy
Requirements:
The ideal candidate will have (1) top-notch interpersonal skills, (2) significant experience working with project developers, lenders, investors, (3) good judgment, and (4) the ability to work and thrive in a fast-paced environment. We need someone who can work independently with a strong sense of urgency and take initiative to identify and resolve challenges. The candidate needs to be able to identify or develop creative public finance solutions to help finance clean energy and climate justice projects in distressed communities by leveraging the tools in the IRA and other sources of funding.
Must have access to a quiet workspace (home office or other space) with high-speed internet and the ability to take calls and/or video conferences during working hours.
Required qualifications include:
- Juris Doctor or Master of Laws
- 5+ years of legal experience with project finance
- Commitment to the mission of L4GG and passion for tackling climate change and environmental justice issues
- Lead and support a team of lawyers through assignment and management of work
- Coach or train staff attorneys on project finance and deal structuring
- Strong written and verbal communication and presentation skills for diverse audiences from policymakers and business executives to members of the public
- Technology comfort and competence with basic softwares such as Google and Zoom, including willingness to embrace new tools such as Asana or Airtable, and self-train using provided resources as needed
- Deep experience with financing of clean energy or infrastructure assets, including drafting and negotiating the financing documentation and project agreements
- Familiarity and relationships with solar and energy storage businesses and industry associations
