Organization: Legal Aid Society of San Bernardino (LASSB)

The Legal Aid Society of San Bernardino (LASSB) is seeking qualified applicants for itsSummer Law Fellowship Program, including the Florentino Garza Fellowship andCalBar Fellowship. This is a temporary, fellowship-only position intended for law students and recent law school graduates who are interested in pursuing careers inpublic interest law.

This fellowship honors the legacy of Attorney Florentino Garza, a lifelong advocate for justice and underserved communities.Fellows will gain hands-on experience supporting LASSB's mission to provide free civil legal services to low-income and vulnerableresidents of San Bernardino County.

Important: This is not a permanent or regular staff position. Fellowship appointments are for a defined summer term only.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Support staff attorneys with legal research, drafting, and case preparation
  • Assist with client interviews, intake, and community outreach (under supervision)
  • Contribute to projects in one or more practice areas (e.g., housing, family law, public benefits, consumer law, immigration), depending on needs and placement
  • Participate in fellowship projects that may include a pro bono or community-impact component
  • Attend trainings, meetings, and professional development opportunities

Compensation & Duration

  • Pay Rate: $26.79 per hour
  • Status: Temporary summer fellowship
  • Duration: Summer term only (dates determined by fellowship agreement)

Fellowship funding may be combined with school-based or external funding, subject to disclosure and approval requirements.

Qualifications:
  • Current law student or recent law school graduate
  • Demonstrated interest in public interest or legal aid work
  • Strong research, writing, and communication skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
  • Commitment to serving low-income and underserved communities
