The Civil Division is responsible for defending civil actions brought against the federal government, taking affirmative civil actions to recover government money lost to fraud, and enforcing civil rights statutes. Job Description:
This is an uncompensated college student internship for summer 2026. The program will last 10 weeks. The tentative start date is Monday, May 18, 2026; however, a later start and end date may be negotiable for students with exam periods finishing in June 2026. Assignments are likely to include research and writing. They are also likely to include helping with case file and docketing projects. Interns can be expected to assist both attorneys and support staff with all aspects of case preparation and providing trial support. Interns may attend but not appear in court.
The office is located at 2100 Jamieson Avenue, Alexandria, Virginia 22314, near the King Street and Eisenhower Metro Stations (blue and yellow lines). Living accommodations and parking will not be provided. Applicants should contact their schools about receiving class credit or a public interest stipend.
Qualifications:
Applicants must be U.S. citizens actively enrolled in an accredited college or university throughout the 2026 summer. Offers are contingent on the selected applicants successfully completing a background review.
