Job SummaryThe Office of the Attorney General for the District of Columbia (OAG) seeks highly qualified undergraduate students to work as legal interns during the academic year and summer vacation. OAG's internship program provides students with a challenging experience that reflects the demands and rewards of public service.
Join the DC Office of the Attorney General (“OAG”) Mediation Program team! The OAG Mediation Program works on behalf of consumers and tenants to resolve disputes without the need to go to court. This is a handson, direct advocacy position that focuses on economic justice issues in the District. Interns become immersed in public interest law and make a real difference. This internship focuses on current undergraduate students. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis.
Duties and Responsibilities
The intern will be assigned to OAG's Public Advocacy Division (“PAD”), Office of Consumer Protection, Mediation Program and will work closely with attorneys and paralegal/investigator mediators. PAD enforces the District's civil rights, environmental, workers' rights, anti-fraud, consumer protection, housing conditions, elder protection, antitrust, and non-profit corporation statutes. The Mediation intern, under attorney supervision, will work to resolve complaints involving consumer issues (such as refunds, scams, landlord/tenant issues), as well as District tenant issues. Interns will respond to calls received on the OAG Mediation Hotline. Interns also support ongoing investigation and litigation matters in PAD and have the opportunity to participate in weekly in-person community outreach events. Interns will build written and oral advocacy skills and learn about different aspects of public interest law.
Qualifications and Education
Excellent oral and written communication skills. Strong interest in consumer protection, housing rights, and public advocacy/public interest law. In-depth working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite programs, especially Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel. Ability to work in fast-moving, dynamic environment, and take responsibility for their work. Strong commitment to problem-solving and helping others. Ability to work individually and as part of a team.
This is an in-person position. The intern is expected to perform all duties in-person at the DC Office of the Attorney General, located at 400 6th Street, NW, WDC. Telework or hybrid positions are not available.
This position is unpaid. Interns are encouraged to bring outside funding or earn school credit. A minimum commitment of 20 hours/week, for the course of the spring semester, starting on or about January 5 or 12, 2026 is required. This internship is focused on current undergraduate students.
