Baker Botts L.L.P. is seeking a State and Local Tax (SALT) Associate with less than three years of experience to join our Dallas or Houston office.

Our SALT team offers a sophisticated, high-demand practice that spans both controversy and transactional matters across all 50 states. This is an excellent opportunity for a junior associate seeking meaningful responsibility, direct partner mentorship, and the opportunity to make real contributions within an entrepreneurial and highly collaborative practice. Associates work closely with experienced partners who maintain an active and robust practice, providing strong training, steady workflow, and substantial growth opportunities.

The ideal candidate will have a demonstrated record of academic achievement and intellectual curiosity, with an interest in mastering complex statutory and regulatory frameworks. Candidates should enjoy research-intensive work, producing high-quality written product, and solving nuanced legal issues that require flexibility, precision, and sound judgment.

Qualifications:
  • J.D. from an accredited law school with strong academic credentials
  • Less than three years of relevant experience
  • Excellent legal research, writing, and analytical skills
  • Strong communication and organizational abilities
  • Interest in state and local tax law, including both controversy and planning matters
  • Motivation to work independently while collaborating in a team-oriented environment
